The weeping fig (Ficus benjamina) is a popular and elegant houseplant renowned for its glossy, drooping leaves and graceful branches. It thrives in bright, indirect light and well-draining soil, preferring consistently moist but not soggy conditions. Indoor growth can be quite tall, over 7’, though it’s easily pruned. While it can be temperamental, dropping leaves when stressed by changes, it’s a long-lived and adaptable plant that purifies the air. It can be placed outside when the evening temperatures exceed 60 degrees.

When all the leaves drop each year, it will regrow at least another foot during this time. Fast growing!

Care guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal; avoid harsh afternoon sun.

  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged; allow the top inch or two to dry between waterings.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, possibly amended with cactus mix or perlite.

  • Temperature & Humidity: Prefers temperatures between 65–75°F (18–24°C) and moderate humidity (50-60%).

  • Pruning: Can be pruned to maintain size and shape; braided trunks are common.

  • Troubleshooting: Leaf drop is common after moving; it will recover with consistent care.

Key characteristics

  • Appearance: Glossy green leaves, arching branches, smooth light gray bark.

  • Size: Can reach 6 feet or more indoors, but is manageable with pruning.

    SIP, SOAK & GROW

Welcome to my page! As a long-time resident of Geauga, avid animal lover, macro & anything photographer, gardener and crafter, my journey began in 2007 when I faced the challenges of severe, aggressive seropositive RA. With my daughter by my side, during recovery from over 2 dozen surgeries and healing through the adversity of being disabled, I found solace learning the art of soap making and later ventured into glass making, wound care formulations, body care and horticulture. A former state military soldier (Army), I also work in the legal field for over 13 years and raise Indian runner ducks with two dogs, Ava (BorderAussie) and Murphy (Goldador), and two hilarious cats on the 6 acre scenic farm.
My therapy is in each creation and photography as reflection of my love for nature and healing. I am also inspired by grandfather's gardening, propagation & permaculture wisdom. I believe in the power of thoughtful gifts, reminding you that you matter, having a peaceful environment and through my work, I aim to spread care, positivity and creativity to others.

So please, pause…Sip the coffee, Soak in self-care, and Grow in all ways with positivity and with what nature provides us.
