The Vital Role of Certified Forest Therapy Practitioners in Enhancing Emotional Wellbeing and Quality of Life

Spending time in nature can calm the mind and refresh the spirit, but guided experiences led by certified forest therapy practitioners take this connection to a deeper level. These trained professionals help individuals unlock the full benefits of forest therapy, also known as Shinrin-yoku or forest bathing. Their expertise supports emotional wellbeing and improves quality of life in ways that casual nature walks often cannot achieve alone.

What Certified Forest Therapy Practitioners Do

Certified forest therapy practitioners have specialized training in guiding people through intentional, mindful experiences in natural settings. Their role is not just to lead walks but to create safe, supportive environments where participants can slow down, engage their senses, and connect deeply with the forest and environment.

They use a variety of techniques such as:

  • Sensory awareness exercises to focus attention on sounds, smells, textures, and sights

  • Mindful breathing and meditation to promote relaxation and presence

  • Guided reflections to help participants process emotions and thoughts

  • Group sharing to foster connection, community and support system

  • Grounding Techniques, Practicing Gratitude, Affirmations/Appreciation in a deeper form

  • Nature Art and Creativity

This structured approach helps participants move beyond distraction and stress, allowing the forest’s calming effects to reach the mind and body more fully.

How Forest Therapy Supports Emotional Wellbeing

Research shows that spending time in nature reduces stress hormones, lowers blood pressure, and improves mood. Certified forest therapy practitioners enhance these benefits by guiding participants to engage with nature intentionally.

This guidance helps people:

  • Reduce anxiety and depression symptoms by promoting relaxation and positive emotions

  • Improve focus and mental clarity through mindful attention to natural surroundings

  • Build resilience by fostering a sense of calm and groundedness

  • Experience emotional release in a safe, nurturing setting

For example, a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that forest therapy sessions led by trained guides significantly lowered cortisol levels and improved mood compared to unguided nature walks. The

Improving Quality of Life Through Forest Therapy

Emotional wellbeing is a key component of overall quality of life. Certified forest therapy practitioners contribute to this by helping individuals develop healthier coping strategies and a stronger connection to nature.

Participants often report:

  • Better sleep quality after sessions

  • Increased feelings of happiness and contentment

  • Greater appreciation for the natural world

  • Enhanced social connections when participating in group sessions

One participant shared how regular forest therapy sessions helped her manage chronic stress and improved her relationships by making her more patient and present.

Why Certification Matters

Certification ensures that practitioners have met rigorous standards in training, ethics, and safety. This is crucial because forest therapy involves more than just walking in the woods. Practitioners must understand:

  • How to create inclusive, accessible experiences for diverse participants

  • Ways to recognize and respond to emotional or physical distress

  • Techniques to deepen the therapeutic impact of nature immersion

  • The importance of respecting natural environments and promoting conservation

Without certification, guides may lack the skills to maximize benefits or ensure participant safety. Certified practitioners bring professionalism and credibility to forest therapy, helping it gain recognition as a valuable wellness practice. Not a trend.

How to Find and Work with a Certified Practitioner

If you want to experience forest therapy with a certified guide, look for practitioners accredited by recognized organizations such as the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs (ANFT). Many offer group sessions, private walks, or workshops tailored to specific needs like stress reduction or grief support.

When choosing a practitioner, consider:

  • Their training and certification credentials

  • Experience working with people who have similar goals or challenges

  • Session formats and locations that fit your preferences

Hello! I'm Jennifer, the owner of Peach Pit Farm and Permaculture, and a Forest Therapy Practitioner/Holistic Guide at Peach Pit Forest Therapy and Wellness, located in Geauga Couty, Montville, Ohio.

A bit about my myself and life:

Former legal administration, military reservist and a mother of 1. I am informed and educated about PTSD/C-PTSD and trauma, and I am also a survivor of DV, DA and SB and assault. Having survived 4 decades of severe narcissistic abuse and the devastating effects, I discovered that the forest offers me peace and solitude, enabling me to feel safe, reset, rewire, redirect, reflect, and enhance my quality of life in all aspects. I certainly understand survival mode.

Having undergone 27 surgeries over 13 years and relearning to walk twice, I still found myself accompanied by my cane, crutches, foot or knee brace, and wrist braces as I ventured into the forest. Even if though breaks were necessary, my goal remained: to escape to the woods and the creek, away from the confinement of four walls. I also have a deep love for water.

The forest has always been my sanctuary from childhood to now. Countless times, I've needed light exercise, a break, or simply a change of scenery to clear my mind. I thought, "I love this; it helps me so much. How can I let someone else who enjoys it heal too?" "It's just the woods!" Helping others helps me. I've been living with RA for 18 years. After the surgeries, I promised myself, 'I'll walk forever and enjoy this beautiful environment as much as I can. Who can I walk with that relates? Who needs someone who understands?' The forest literally provided me with the answer. I had been engaging in Forest Bathing every day naturally. After being nearly immobile for so many years, only venturing out when it was safe, I put on my running shoes (laughing) to help myself as I aim to help others achieve a better quality of life, even if just for a day or a few hours.

I enjoy spending time in the woods with my three dogs, two of which are ESA animals. My Goldador, Murphy, Border Aussie, Ava and new recuse yellow lab mix, Bo. We explore, as I gather interesting rocks, skip stones, walk barefoot in the creek, and watch a small waterfall. They search for minnows, frogs and soak in the creek. However, since my life has changed significantly since I was younger, I now engage with the environment in a different way. I became a Certified Forest Therapist Practitioner, using my passion to help others reconnect with themselves for personal growth and to enhance their body, mind, and spirit awareness.

I have a motto for the farm: Sip, Soak, and Grow. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, feel the breeze, soak in the tub, immerse yourself in nature, nurture the plants, and cultivate personal growth. It's all about gentle care and sustainability. I would be delighted to assist you. I find fulfillment in working with individuals dealing with PTSD, CPTSD, Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, and various levels of trauma. I'm always here and eager to explore how we can support one another.

I am organizing multiple creative workshops throughout all four seasons, along with overnight retreats. If you have a registered, licensed ESA or Service Animal, please feel free to bring them! I want you to be as comfortable as possible. It's a nice break for them too. There will be designated times for activities with and without the animals. One-on-one therapy sessions are also available.

If you have any questions or inquiries, please feel free to mail me at Thepeachpitfarm@yahoo.com. I will always respond the same day.

Working with a certified forest therapy practitioner can be a powerful step toward improving your emotional wellbeing and enriching your life.

I do not reccomend this company. Jennifer as posted my child publicly online, exposing my special needs daughter to a group full of preditors. Please feel free to email me and ill send the evidence. This was all because i corrected her on the meaning of discrimination. She started getting really nasty to the point of doing this. I will happily send the evidence of the verbal abuse and the post of herself posting my child.

About Jenny.

SIP, SOAK & GROW

Welcome to my page! As a long-time resident of Geauga, avid animal lover, macro & anything photographer, gardener and crafter, my journey began in 2007 when I faced the challenges of severe, aggressive seropositive RA. With my daughter by my side, during recovery from over 2 dozen surgeries and healing through the adversity of being disabled, I found solace learning the art of soap making and later ventured into glass making, wound care formulations, body care and horticulture. A former state military soldier (Army), I also work in the legal field for over 13 years and raise Indian runner ducks with two dogs, Ava (BorderAussie) and Murphy (Goldador), and two hilarious cats on the 6 acre scenic farm.
My therapy is in each creation and photography as reflection of my love for nature and healing. I am also inspired by grandfather's gardening, propagation & permaculture wisdom. I believe in the power of thoughtful gifts, reminding you that you matter, having a peaceful environment and through my work, I aim to spread care, positivity and creativity to others.

So please, pause…Sip the coffee, Soak in self-care, and Grow in all ways with positivity and with what nature provides us.
